The story of photo-journalists Louie Palu at the front of the combat in Kandahar, south of Afghanistan. Through the diary he wrote between 2006 and 2010 we discover his psychological evolution amongst the harshness and tedium of an absurd violence disconnected from reality.
We experiment the harshness and tedium of the war in the first person, from an unprecedented point of view constructed through Palu’s perception, as he fails to understand the situation around him. The chaos at the firing line is combined with Palu’s banal life in North America, and this strong contrast helps us understand the complex inner world of a war photographer.
Louie Palu has worked as a professional award-winning documentary photographer for 24-years. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a Pulitzer Center On Crisis Reporting Grant. He is well known for his long-term projects on social political issues. He covered the war in Kandahar, Afghanistan from 2006-2010 and made several short films about the conflict. Kandahar Journals is his first feature documentary film.
